The Achilles-Class of Tripods - primarily referred to as 'Achilles' - were steam/dieselpunk vehicles created by A.R.E.S.
Built to improve upon the already formidable earlier variants of the Achilles-class, the new Achilles-class stood at 70-75 feet tall, is powered by a diesel-fueled steam and combustion engine and was piloted by a crew of six. As well as having better armour than its predecessor, it also possessed more powerful and numerous weapons.
Although not as fast as the smaller Hermes-Class or Spartan-Class Tripods, this new Achilles class can reach a top speed of 25 miles per hour.
They are A.R.E.S most powerful Tripods and the best hope of beating the Martians and their Fighting-machines. The Tripods were named after Achilles - a near-invulnerable warrior who became a hero in the Trojan War in Ancient Greece. A notable version from this class was the "Goliath"; the first of the new Achilles Class and which was named after the Tripod's immense size by Captain Eric Wells.
Usage[]
A.R.E.S used the Achilles Class machines against the Martians during the second invasion which began in 1914. Many of A.R.E.S‘s Achilles Class Tripods were destroyed by the new Martian Weapons.
