The Spartan-Class of Tripods - primarily referred to as 'Spartans' - were steam/dieselpunk vehicles created by A.R.E.S.
Standing at 35ft tall and running on a diesel-fueled steam and combustion engine, the Spartan-class Tripods were smaller than both the larger Achilles-Classes and also lacked the superior firepower as they did not possess rockets or a heat ray weapon. However, they were armed with a large machine gun and a cannon on full turret. Furthermore, while not as quick as the smaller Hermes-class, they were faster than their larger counterparts and could prove to be very effective in groups to make up for their lack of high-power weapons when battling the Martians in their Fighting-machines.
The Tripods were named after the Spartans - a famous group of warriors from the city-state of the same name in Ancient Greece.
