In the early game it is best to build in vital resource and production these far from Martian held regions due to their resource intense construction. Later in the game these weapons are a straight upgrade from the medium gun post when attacking ground forces but only equally capable in attacking Martian flying machines as the medium gun posts compared to the anti aircraft array,

- Based on the caliber and time period, the level 1 Heavy gun emplacement could be based on the QF 6-inch 40 calibre naval gun, which was used by many United Kingdom-built warships around the end of the 19th century and the start of the 20th century. Additionally from 1894 onward, a number of guns were adapted for coast defence use, with the original 3-motion breeches replaced by modern single-motion breeches to increase the rate of fire, which designated them as "B" guns.
- Based on the model and caliber of level 2 and 3 Heavy Gun Emplacements, it is possible that they are based on the Ordnance BL 9.2-inch howitzer and it's successor the Ordnance BL 12-inch howitzer or the BL 12-inch railway howitzer; however these were designed to be heavy siege howitzers, rather than naval guns.
