New York City is a massive metropolitan area in the state of New York, USA. In the novel, hundreds of millitary forces are stationed here to defend the evacuations of civilians. However, the martain invasion was not a direct attack but rather an unconvetional tactic using very deady gas in mass quanity. Killing all of the population other than about 45 people.
It makes another apperance in the 2005: Steven Speilberg film, However it is never shown attacked and much information is missing such as deaths and damage however both are projected to be very high as the entire invasion is centered in New Jersey, very near New York. Many of the famous buildings such as The Empire State building are know to be destroyed, as well as very likley the United Nations. The battle of New York is presumably the same outcome as in the novel... Gas attacks
